Dia de Reyes

Kings Day Celebration
(Wise Man are called Kings in Spanish)
What fun season to come to Spain as the big day to give gift for Christmas is "Dia de Reyes" celebrated on January 6. Also called Epiphany. The afternoon/night before there is a "Cabalgata", a beautiful parade of color and fun displays. Towards the end of it the 3 wise man arrive. All the children greet and cheer the wise man as they make their way trough the celebration. According to tradition their names are: Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar.
The day of January 6 in the morning every family shares a Roscon de Reyes (Epiphany Cake). Inside every cake there are two surprises, a king and a bean. If you get the king in your slice of cake, you become the king for the day. If you get the bean, you will pay for next year's cake. Our friends gave us a "Roscon" and we all tried our chances in the morning of the 6th.
I'll see you all next January 6th at my house. It will be my turn to pay for "El Roscon"

Vale,
