Vocabulary books are hand and home made collections of words that you desire your children to memorize. They can be done by themes, like: body parts, family, pets, home, summer, birthday, etc. The books are more fun when made with pictures of the children, because it creates some type of emotional attachment. They can also be created with printed pictures of objects or pictures from magazines.
We had a lot of fun looking for pictures, choosing our favorites, cutting, pasting and labeling. The pages in our books have a picture of the kidDOS with labels in both Spanish and English.
I got this idea after reading "Raising Confident Readers" by Richard Gentry. It is a great book with lots of practical advise for parents of babies to elementary age children. The main desire of the author is to help parents or teachers develop the love for reading and learning in the new generation.
