Leaves and feathers

Thanksgiving is such a wonderful time! And practicing the virtue of gratitude is a great exercise for the entire family.  :)

Here is the rest of the story as we had a Celebration of Gratitude plan for the month of November.

Creating the thankful wreath and the thank you note cards was so much fun.
Construction paper hand-made leaves
I tried to make as many shapes as I could create  :)
Making the Thank You Notes was very fun.
We talk about the seasons and Fall in particular. We talked about how the trees in this time of the year loose their leaves. Now every time we pass by a tree the kidDOS are sure to remind me that the trees are loosing their leaves.  :)
Book in Spanish: Un recorrido por las estaciones
Note Cards made with leaves
We played with leaves as we sorted and grouped them.
A basket full of leaves!
Here is what I did to create the thankful wreath.
A frisbee wrapped in aluminum foil
We kept it on a kitchen cabinet door for the month of November.
As Thanksgiving got closer we started to talk about the history of Thanksgiving, and how the pilgrims were thankful to God for life, survival, friends and the new freedom to worship. We read several books about it.
One of our favorite books
One of the books we read talked about how the native americans taught the pilgrims how to cultivate the land and hunt for animals, like the turkey. A new game started: hunting for turkeys around the house. :)  During our Thanksgiving celebration we created American Indian headbands with feathers and we played our own version of "Turkey hunt". They took turns being the turkey, while the other one was the Indian who needed to chase the turkey around the house. We had so much fun!
What a beautiful time we had with leaves and feathers all month long.  :)
I hope you had a memorable Thanksgiving as well,
