A Celebration of Gratitude

I am looking forward to November, one of my favorite months.  :)  I love celebrating Thanksgiving, an acquired tradition. In Mexico we do not have a day to give thanks such as this. What a beautiful time to reconsider all the many blessings we have received.

Now that the twins have arrived to our lives a new desire in my husband and myself to create memorable times together has been birthed with in us. We have embraced some family traditions that we will use to bring closeness, openness, a sense of belonging and a way to share the things that we value the most. We are just getting started and we hope we get better as we practice it. What do you wish to perpetuate in your family from generation to generation?

This year we will spend most of the month of November with a focus on a Grateful Heart. Every weekday at dinner time, while we all sit together, we will take time to give thanks. Every day we will focus on one person/group that is meaningful to us. Here is a copy of our plan.

Door Wreath: Every day as we give thanks, we will write on a paper cut-out leaf the name of who or what we are giving thanks for. We will glue the leaf to a sturdy paper plate that has the center cut off (to shape the wreath). Once the wreath is finished we will hang it in the entrance door.

Note: When I have some pictures of the finished project I will upload them for you to see.  :)

Letter of thankfulness: Every week the kidDOS will choose one person to write a letter of Thanksgiving. We will work on creating 4 kid-made cards, write a message of thanksgiving and send them.

My Thankful book: Thanksgiving day we will work on our final thankful project. A kid-made book of Thankfulness. We will use pictures and drawings to represent the things that we are thankful for.

Expressing gratitude: "Gracias"  and "Thank you" are the words I desire the kidDOS to know and use very well at the end of the month. We will practice the words after every time their receive help from someone. We will practice them while we drive; how are they to respond when someone is nice to them. We will review what do they mean and when it is appropriate to use them. We will talk about when to use it in Spanish and when to use it in English.  :)

Hope you join us in giving thanks to the one that deserves all of our heart gratitude. Jesus!
