Sunny days

We love summer, but this year our summer has been quite long. We have had about 80 days of three-digit temperatures, and the forecast is that they are coming back again. We are learning new ways to appreciate our sunny days, and take advantage of them. We tried 3 easy science projects for a day full with "SOL" (sun). Come and join us in the adventure...  :)

As we learned about the sun we prepared tea and hotdogs in the sun for lunch, and created a sun-craft with sun-melted crayons.  What a sunny day!!

Here our supplies on our backyard table.
Working in all three projects simultaneously.

Decaf tea , please!
Feeling how cold the hotdogs are right out of the refrigerator!  FRIOS   :)
Our aluminum foil cookers.

Looking forward to lunch time!

Supplies for the sun-craft: yellow and orange construction paper, and a paper plate.
A collection of all of our broken crayons.

We melted some of the broken crayons for our sun-craft. Again, I am surprised how long the kidDOS can stay on a project that helps them develop a new skill. We took off all the paper wrappings of the crayons for about 30 minutes. We used yellow, orange and a bit of red to melt and smudge in the center of the paper plates.
Peeling crayons for about 30 minutes.  :)

We folded the yellow and orange construction paper in 6 pieces. We drew their hands and cut hand-shaped pieces of paper.

Alternating colors we glued the hand shaped pieces of paper around the paper plate.

Right before smudging the melted crayons on the paper plate.

We talked about the difference in temperature, color, and texture after the sun had touched our three venues.

They had so much fun eating their hotdogs.  YUM!!

TE, POR FAVOR!  (Tea, please)
Our final creation, and our book about the sun.
What a fun day of learning and experimenting. Hope you enjoyed the pics and the ideas.  :)
How do you like to cook your hotdogs?
