Carnival at school

Celebration with friends

Schools here celebrate Carnival with the students. Our kidDOS and their class created their own costumes. All made out of plastic trash bags in a very creative way. Every grade choose a different character. Then everyone walked through the town singing and chanting. They enjoyed their lunch break together at the park.
The song below is the carnival song. The kidDOS almost  know it by heart. Chicharero is a person that eats chícharos (peas). It used to be a derogative term for the people of Santa Cruz (before it was the capital city). They were so poor, that the only thing they afforded to eat was peas. Now they have taken the term with pride, and they called themselves chichareros. Santa Cruz is now the most important city in the Island.

Vale,
