Love to Read

Books are some of the favorite toys our kiddos have.
Loved Christmas gift!!

They love to read so much, they can read and read and read. Well, not quite like that yet. :)  They can listen to me or Papito read, and read, and read book after book.
Just talking about the topic brought to my memory how we started with those soft cloth-material hand-made books that have simple images. We moved into board-books, moved into picture books, and now they can attentively listen to a short chapter book that has very little pictures. Their vocabulary and imagination has grown so much. They can visualize what happens in a story and then act out the characters in the story.
Kiddos' collection of books
Principe started to ask me to teach him how to read at age 3 and a half. It was then that we embarked in a wonderful experience. The first goal: learn the alphabet, upper and lower case letters. We have spent a lot of time these past 6 months in the recognition of letter.
Pretending to read: Princesa tells her own story to match the pictures
Some of our favorite resources have been:

  1. Hooked on Phonics Kindergartner level CDs - we use these in the car as we ride. Each one of the kiddos has their own set of cards to flip while they sing the song.
  2. LeapFrog Fridge magnets - both in upper and lower case.
  3. Scholastic AlphaTales - Great story books for each letter of the alphabet.
  4. Teacher Book Bag Exploring Letters in my World
  5. LeapFrog videos - Letter Factory, Word Factory, Code Word Caper and Storybook Factory
What are some of your favorite activities to learn letters?
