Fulbright Senior Scholar to Spain

Several years ago Papito and I were dreaming together about one day going to another country and serving among people from different cultures.

Summer of 2017 the journey started. It was a long and unknown process of applications, selection of awards, letters, and documents. A clear timeline and lots of work moved us towards the goal of being considered for an Award in some place in the world with a need for a Professor in Leadership and Strategy to come and share his expertise.

On January 26, 2018, we got a letter of congratulations. The letter explained that Papito had been awarded to visit Universidad de La Laguna (ULL). We did not know where ULL was located, so soon we opened google maps and searched. We were very surprised to know that our time in Spain would be spent on an island out in the Atlantic Ocean. ULL has a student population of 20,000.
Universidad de la La Laguna is located in Tenerife. Tenerife is one of 7 Islands. These 7 Islands or Archipelago, are known as the Canary Islands. The Canary Islands are named after a dog, called the Canary Dog.
Tenerife is the largest of the 7 islands, and it has a volcano. It is the tallest mountain in Spain and also the third largest volcano in the world. The Volcano is called "El Tiede".

Here a brief drescription Pirncesa wrote for our Co-Op newsletter about Tenerife:
300 years
The city of San Antonio, Texas, turned 300 years old in 2018. In 1731 the king of Spain sent 16 families from the Canary Islands to San Antonio to go and create the town and also live in the town that they had to create. This year during the 300 Anniversary celebration of the foundation of San Antonio some important people from the Canary islands will come to visit in the week of spring break. The Canary islands is a group of 7 Islands. In one of the islands there is the 3rd largest volcano in the world. These islands are located in the Atlantic ocean west of Morocco. The Canary islands are part of Spain just like Hawaii is a part of the United States. The map below shows the Canary Islands in the color green.

Oh the places you will go...
Smiles,
