Best Parenting Resources
When the kidDOS arrived to our family, Papito and I found ourselves laking many needed skills to raise children. We searched in different places. We committed ourselves to find the best advice available for healthy parenting.
The National Center for Biblical Parenting provided a lot of great resources for raising children. Their philosophy is based on shaping children's hearts. An approach often utilized in parenting that does not necessarily reach a child's hears is when parents use techniques for controlling behaviors. The dilemma with this approach is that as a child grows, the behaviors change, and new controlling techniques are once again required. The goal is a heart-based parenting approach is for the inner being (the heart) of the child to be trained and transformed, in order for the child to desire what is good and admirable (not just conform and adapt outward behavior). As parents, we desire to raise children with inner strength needed to make good decisions on their own, without having to control them continually.
One of the books from the Center for Biblical Parenting that we really enjoyed and used to get ideas was "Good and Angry". The title, and the cover picture of the book do not do justice to the content that resides within. The age-old adage, don't judge a book by its cover, certainly applies to this one (smile). We've read a lot of books on parenting, and this is one of the best. I would highly recommend it to any parent interested in developing character in their children. This book inspired many ideas for us on how to parent with a focus on the hearth of the child.
Another great book from the NCBP that contains an array of topics for every parent is "The Christian Parenting Handbook: 50 Heart-Based Strategies for All the Stages of your Child's Life". NCBP also provides free email subscriptions with useful tips for parenting. Their website is: http://www.biblicalparenting.org
I hope this resource is a blessing to you.
Smiles,
